As well as great local talent such as Zooo Superbande with Dan Barnett, John Morrison and Suzanna WellinkEmma Hamilton, Atom Quintet, Smoooth Jazz Ensemble, this year's Festival brings you some great International Jazz talent. The Tricia Evy Trio (France) & Charito (Japan).

Based in Tokyo, Japan,  Charito is acclaimed as one of the finest jazz singers in the world. She has been a top-billed jazz vocalist for more than three decades and has released albums in Asia, USA, France, South America and the Middle East.

In the words of the legendary Ms. Nancy Wilson:

“The first time I heard Charito, I physically and emotionally embraced her and thought myself beautiful, that came from the heart and soul. She has a warm way of presenting a song and represents what a singer really is, a song stylist.”

Charito’s recent highlights include:

A Gold Disc and Best Vocal Performance awards for her Nica’s Dream album in 2007.

A featured solo vocalist at the Atlanta Jazz Festival and Black Arts Jazz Festival (2008).

A collaboration with Oscar and Grammy Award-winner, Michel Legrand resulted in Watch What Happens and the recording features provocative interpretations of the maestro’s music. Legrand paid tribute to Charito’s vocal styling when he said, “The album is a beautiful and spontaneous interpretation of life.”

In 2009, Charito was featured artist at the Jazz Aux Iles Festival in Tahiti.  In the same year, she got rave reviews for her performances at the Jazz-à-Vienne Sydney and Manly Jazz Festivals and was among the jazz greats at the Los Angeles Fil-Am Jazz Festival.

Charito has just completed a successful tour of the US and her new album, Heal The World (2010), was produced by Harvey Mason.

Born on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, Tricia Evy is one of France’s best-known jazz vocalists with her passion for singing inspired by legendary artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Mel Tormé

In recent years, Tricia, together with Xavier Richardeau (saxophone) and Jean Phillipe Bordier (guitar) has delighted international audiences with a musical repertoire of standards by major composers, including George Gershwin and Cole Porter.
The trio recently appeared at the famous Olympia in Paris

This is their second visit to Australia

The Tricia Evy Trio - Direct from Paris France  Featuring :Xavier Richardeau (Tenor & Baritone Saxophone) Jean Philippe Bordier (Guitar) & Tricia Evy (Vocals)

Jazz à Vienne Sydney 2011 introduces Sydney-based French/Austrailan Emma Hamilton, who has released her debut album "La Musique" on ABC/Universal Jazz label which reached #9 on the AREA Jazz charts recently

The album title acknowledges Emma’s bi-cultural background and
features an intoxicating blend of jazz-pop standards and hook-laden originals

Featuring many of Australia’s leading session musicians, the album is produced by Emma’s younger brother Tom, whose influence not just on the lush sound of the album but indeed on Emma’s entire career has been profound. They first performed together in their band The Hamiltons (later known as CAROLINE) and since then they have played together regularly in iconic Sydney venues like The Basement, The Vanguard and the Enmore Theatre, including supporting Ryan Adams in 2009

Emma Hamilton is a featured performer in Jazz à Vienne Sydney 2011

Farewell to a friend & supporter of Jazz-à-Vienne Sydney

Our best wishes to Jean-Jacques Garnier ( Attaché Culturel - Consulat Général de France) and wife Michèle who will take up new challenges in Japan.  Jean-Jacques has been a wonderful friend to and supporter of Jazz-à-Vienne Sydney.  His contribution to French / Australian cultural endeavours and in particular, his ability to bring people together has enriched the relationship between both countries.
Merci beaucoup Jean–Jacques.
