Youth In Jazz Band Competition 2011
For bands with a minimum of 2 and up to 7 members, being under the age of 21 years (as at 5th October 2011)
Two Divisions
Division 1: Students up to HSC Level (must be currently attending high school)
Division 2: Up to age 21
Two Heats
Heat 1: Wednesday 28th September 2011
Heat 2: Wednesday 5th October 2011 (final)
$500 - 1st Prize * Division 1
$1000 - 1st Prize * Division 2
Judging
Heat 1 Judges: Members of the Hawkesbury Jazz Club
Heat 2 (final) Judges: John Morrison, Dan Barnett
Winners will be announced on the night of each heat
Division 2 winners also get a 30 minute spot to perform at The Basement on Thursday 6th October 2011 as part of the Jazz à Vienne Sydney Festival
The Competition is to be held in the Bensons Function Room at the Richmond Club, 6 East Market Street Richmond, for both heats. Winners will be announced at the final heat on Wednesday 5th October 2011
Bands will play 2 pieces. The entire program must be Jazz orientated, i.e. Swing Jazz, Bebop Jazz, Latin Jazz, or Funk Jazz.
Performance pieces need to be of 2 contrasting styles. The performances will not exceed 15 minutes.
A keyboard amp, bass amp and basic drum kit will be provided. A PA System and some microphones will be provided by the Hawkesbury Jazz Club.
